A bit of a tribute to super mario bros.
I think the princess looks rather young in her first official art somehow [link] ?. I tried to make mario a bit younger too as well (and still keeping the mustache of course). Here I thought there is no "romance" going on, but more of a older person feeling responsible for a younger being kinda thing..

I still kinda like the thought that mario is from another "world" than the mushroom kingdom (though I don't like the whole "brocklin thing XD, come on, that was a american made cartoon, and we all know that they think everything happens in the usa, because it's the "center" of the earth, I mean, just look how many movies that is supposed to happen in the states? XXD). But anyway, another world, weather it's a "similar" world like our, or Italy XD?.

---- (random rambling, which is not any official of any sort, just some random ideas XD)

But anyway, the point is he discover a place called the mushroom kingdom, along with his brother luigi. Where they get to know that the king's daughter have been kidnapped by some nasty king of the koopa. Those two decides to saves the child for the king from the evil king of the koopas.

Meantime at Koopa's castle the princess is being kept prison. Prince Bowser is curious about the princess (the current koopa king is Bowser's father). But his father don't like his son to be together with her like that, since his father have already decided a "wife" for Bowser koopa, which will keep the koopa clan pure (where the koopa kids really came from XD).

In the end, Mario defeats King koopa, and saves the princess (and this will make Bowser koopa the next king)..
After that, he and luigi returns to theirs own world...

sometime later the brother will return again someday. But years will have been gone through for the mushroom kingdom by that time..

Anyway, late 25 year ago since super mario bros game came out (whoo as old as I!). And I know, the character mario is older and such XD . And there was a game before that time with called "mario bros" (the one with the pipes). So no need to nitpick..

The young look to the characters fits how I always pictured them when they were just sprites on the screen. Love it!
